This punch was custom CNC machined from D-2 Tool Steel for the manufacturing of electronic components.
Description
A client requested that Imperial Carbide, Inc. construct them a punch for their electronics manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC. After reviewing the blueprints, we quickly came to the conclusion that while the assignment would have its novelties and challenges (as should all good assignments), our expertise and technological capabilities would be more than up to the task
We set about our task quickly, following customer-supplied blueprint with care and precision. By applying our Millpower CNC milling machine to D-2 tool steel, we shaped the punch according to the approximate dimensions specified by the client, namely 3.047″ in length, 1.4640″ in width, and .7750″ in height. With our CNC surface grinder, we finished some of the punches details down to its tightest tolerances of ±.0001″. Through CNC EDM sinking, we added all the necessary surface details.
The results were excellent. In five weeks’ turnaround time, from initial CNC milling all the way through CMM inspections, we were able to produce (10) 1 lb. punches featuring ±.0001″ punch tolerances across all teeth, non-accumulative. The customer’s punch was produced adhering to all requested dimensions with efficiency and precision. We had successfully met all of our client’s specifications by way of our problem-solving and efficient manufacturing processes.
